During the construction of terrazzo slabs on the ground, dividing strips are set up mainly based on their material characteristics and construction requirements. The core functions of dividing strips can be summarized into the following four points:

1, Prevent the occurrence of irregular cracks
During the construction and drying process, terrazzo materials may experience uneven shrinkage due to factors such as temperature changes, water evaporation, or base settlement. If the ground is poured as a whole, the concentration of shrinkage stress can easily lead to large-scale cracking, which may penetrate the entire ground and affect the safety and aesthetics of the structure. Grid bars divide the ground into smaller areas (such as grids), limiting the shrinkage range of each block and dispersing stress to local areas, thereby reducing the occurrence of cracks. Even if cracks appear, they are limited to the small blocks divided by the grid, avoiding the expansion of cracks to adjacent areas.

2, Easy for local maintenance and replacement
After long-term use, terrazzo floors may experience local damage (such as hollowing and cracking) due to wear, impact, or substrate issues. If there is no grid strip on the ground, the damage may affect a large area, and the entire repair process requires dismantling and redoing, which is costly and time-consuming. The grid strip divides the ground into independent small pieces, and when damaged, only the corresponding area needs to be repaired without damaging the overall structure. The repair scope is clear, the operation is simple, and it can significantly reduce maintenance costs.
3, Improve ground flatness and construction accuracy
During the laying process of terrazzo, slight unevenness may occur on the ground due to material errors, construction operations, or the flatness of the base layer. Grid bars can be used as adjustment tools to fill gaps or fine tune heights, compensating for construction errors and achieving higher flatness of the ground. In addition, the fixed position of the grid strip (such as embedded according to the design ink line) can assist in controlling the construction elevation, ensuring consistent overall elevation and improving construction quality.

4, Enhance aesthetics and decorative effects
Grid strips are not only functional components, but can also serve as decorative elements. By selecting grid strips of different materials (such as copper, aluminum, glass) or colors, geometric patterns, boundaries, or zones can be divided to enrich the visual effect of the ground. For example, in public spaces, grid bars can be used to divide functional areas (such as corridors and rest areas), or to coordinate with the overall decoration style, enhancing the sense of spatial design.
Material and construction points of dividing strips
Material selection: Commonly used copper, aluminum, or glass strips must have corrosion resistance and high strength characteristics to adapt to the terrazzo construction environment.
Construction process:
Pop up dividing lines on the well maintained leveling layer;
Cut and divide the grid according to the line, and fix it with cement slurry (the bottom is smoothed into a figure eight shape);
Ensure that the grid strips are firmly embedded, the joints are tight, and there are no gaps;
After construction, maintain for at least 2 days to avoid loosening of the dividing strips.
Attention: The width of the dividing strip should be uniform to avoid affecting the appearance; During construction, it is necessary to control the height of the cement slurry to ensure that the dividing strip is level with the ground.
